The bear was a totemic animal for the ancient Belarusians. It was revered as the lord of the forest. It was a secret animal, whose name was taboo, and we only have a word that literally means "one who knows honey." The bear was considered the guardian of pregnant women, women in labor, and small children. Today, there are few of these animals in the forests of Belarus, and they are very cautious.
